What we grow & share
Village Family Farms is a community-based urban farm dedicated to making fresh, nutritious food accessible to our neighbors.
- Locally grown fruits and vegetables
- Free-range eggs and poultry, raised with care
- Honey and farm-fresh goods — plus space for community learning and connection
We farm with sustainable practices and partner with other local growers so more Cleveland families can eat well.
About Jamel & the farm
Jamel Rahkeera has worked in urban agriculture for over 17 seasons. His work with Village Family Farms has been recognized by Rid-All Green Partnership, NRCS, Holden Forests and Gardens, Western Reserve Land Conservancy, Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District, the USDA, and through a City of Cleveland resolution of recognition for his urban agriculture and community organizing.
In Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood, Village Family Farms grows in a 30×72 high tunnel and a year-round hydroponic shipping container—tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, watermelons, and herbs—plus a bee apiary that yields honey and beeswax products like BEE MOIST Lip Balm. Jamel regularly hosts tours for USDA, NRCS, OSU Extension, Case Western Reserve, Cornell, John Carroll, and Oberlin.
A former four-year member of Cleveland’s Urban Agricultural Committee, he trains and mentors fellow urban growers and believes shared knowledge strengthens the local farming community. Looking ahead, he will lead workshops, farm tours, and field days on climate-smart practices; mentor new farmers; and expand VFF’s summer youth employment and STEAM programs across greater Cleveland.
AG Futures Cleveland
Jamel partners with AG Futures Cleveland — a collaborative of urban growers training the next generation of farmers across greater Cleveland. Through AG Futures, he leads farm workshops, tours, and field days on climate-smart and sustainable urban agriculture, mentors new and beginning farmers, and helps expand youth employment and STEAM learning in agriculture and natural resources.
